Aluminium systems

Aluminium earns its place where the opening is large, the sash is heavy or the profile has to stay slim. The profile catalogue is the easy part. The result depends on the junctions between the frame and the building.

Aluminium-framed glazed entrance doors of a restaurant

Warm and cold systems are different products

A thermally broken profile separates the inner and outer aluminium shells with an insulating insert. It is what makes an aluminium door usable as the heated envelope of a building. A cold profile is perfectly reasonable for a vestibule, an interior partition or an unheated terrace — and a mistake on a heated room.

The decision is made by how the space is used in January, not by the look of the profile in a showroom.

The threshold is the hardest detail

A low threshold is convenient and accessible, but it is also the place where water, cold and floor finishes meet. Drainage, the insulation line under the frame and the height of the finished floor have to be agreed with the builder before the screed is poured, not when the door arrives.

Weight is a hardware problem

Large glazed sashes are heavy. Hinges, pivots and closers are selected for the real weight and frequency of use — an entrance to a restaurant opens hundreds of times a day. Undersized hardware does not fail on day one; it sags over a season.

For the product side — doors, windows, winter gardens, pergolas — see aluminium structures by Space Glass (in Ukrainian).

What to check before production

  1. Heated or unheated space on each side of the frame
  2. Finished floor level and where water goes at the threshold
  3. How the frame meets the insulation layer of the wall
  4. Sash weight against the rated capacity of hinges and closers
  5. Wind exposure and the fixing pitch of the frame
